Germs never take a season off—neither should your protection! As the weather cools down, flu season starts. The best defense for the flu is your annual flu vaccine. It helps prevent serious illness and keeps you and your family strong all season long. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) explains that the flu vaccine is safe for everyone six months and older, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding moms. It’s also a covered benefit for all Texas Children’s Health Plan members.
A few other ways you can help your family stay healthy this season include:
Visit our website to learn more about respiratory illnesses and ways to keep your family healthy. Talk with your Primary Care Provider (PCP) if you have questions or concerns about the flu or your health.

About 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes each year. Living with diabetes can feel overwhelming, and we are here to support you and your family. Managing your diabetes can help prevent heart, eye, foot, and kidney problems in the future.
A few simple daily habits can help you stay healthy, such as taking your medicine as prescribed, staying active, eating healthy foods, and checking your blood glucose (sugar) levels. Don't forget going to regular checkups with your doctor!
Visit our website for more diabetes tips and to learn how we can support you and your family. As part of our Healthy Rewards Program, you can also get rewarded for taking steps to stay on top of your health.

If your child takes medicine, make sure they take it the right way. Follow the doctor’s directions for the correct dose of medicine to give and when to give it. Taking medicine the wrong way can cause harmful side effects. It may also raise the risk of substance use disorder (SUD).
In 2025, 44.6 million people aged 12 or older had a SUD.
We've gathered a few tips to help make sure you're safely managing your child's medications:
If you or your child has an emergency and needs mental health or substance use treatment right away, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. For more support, call our 24/7 Behavioral Health/Substance Abuse Hotline: 1-800-731-8529 (STAR/STAR Kids), 1-800-731 8528 (CHIP).
